With fantasy football officially behind us, it’s time to prepare for the 2021 season. This past week I have collected some data which includes draft results, season long stats and fantasy points for most players.
Today I will be looking at TE’s in 2020. We saw the top tier TE’s Kelce and Kittle both get taken in the 2nd round of the draft. Kelce lived up to all the expectations and then some finishing with 275 fantasy points good for 18.35 point per game. Darren Waller TE2 finished with 221 points with an average of 14.79 points per game. Kittle unfortunately got hurt and missed 8 games this season and still managed to finished as TE18 with 97 points. If we only count the games he played in he averaged 13.97 points per game, which would’ve been good for TE3.
This was a tough year for TE’s it was basically Kelce & Waller then everyone else. I can’t say there was a steal of the draft, but the best value pick was Mike Gesicki who finished as TE7 after being drafted in the 11th round.
Below we have the list of the Top 28 TE’s in 2020.

In my previous posts I mention my strategy on waiting to draft a QB. I have a similar strategy when drafting TE’s as well. With only a few top tier TE’s I feel its best to load up on RB and WR’s in those early rounds. I would even recommend drafting a QB before a TE. As you can see 2 of the top 6 TE’s went undrafted Robert Tonyan TE3 and Logan Thomas TE6. With only and handful of dominant TE’s you have a better chance of hitting on a mid tier TE in the later rounds than risk drafting an elite TE that gets hurt or underperforms.
